About Dental Cleanings

What happens during a Dental Cleaning?

A dental hygienist will inspect your mouth for inflammation, cavities, or any other concerns. From there, the dental hygienist will remove plaque and tartar from around your gum line and between your teeth. The more you brush and floss, the less tartar and plaque build up you’ll have. Once you have tartar, you can only have it removed at the dentist office.

After scrapping for plaque and tartar, the dental hygienist will brush your teeth with a special toothpaste and brushing tool.

After brushing, your teeth will be flossed and be able to get to hard to reach areas you may not be able to reach when flossing at home. This also removes any left over toothpaste or plaque.

Lastly you’ll receive a fluoride treatment to help protect your mouth to fight cavities.
You may be asked back for other procedures if the dentist finds any issues such as needing sealants, fillings, or or crowns.
